Families

Strengthen Connection. Heal Old Wounds. Grow Together - Not Apart.

Is your family feeling stuck: caught in patterns of conflict, silence, or misunderstanding?
Are you trying to support someone you love but finding it hard to help without losing yourself in the process?

Family therapy offers a space to slow down, make sense of what’s happening, and reconnect. Together, you’ll explore your family’s dynamics, strengthen understanding, and build healthier ways of communicating and supporting one another.

At Four Wings Psychology, our therapists help families navigate change, stress, and conflict with compassion, clarity, and care for everyone involved. Whether in-person in Nepean or virtually across Ontario, we work with you to create balance and connection - one step at a time.

What is Family Therapy?

Family Therapy is a type of psychotherapy that focuses on relational patterns - not just individual problems. It views each person’s struggles as connected to the larger family system. The goal is to help families understand one anothercommunicate better, and work through challenges as a team.

You don’t have to be in crisis to benefit. Family therapy can be a powerful tool for healing longstanding patterns, deal with new stressors, or simply learning how to relate to each other in healthier, more supportive ways.

What Can Family Therapy Help With?

We support families facing a wide range of concerns, including:

  • Communication breakdowns or frequent conflict
  • Parenting struggles or blended family transitions
  • Grief, illness, or trauma impacting the family system
  • Supporting a child, teen, or adult family member with mental health concerns
  • Sibling rivalry or challenging parent-child relationships
  • Cultural or intergenerational challenges
  • Emotional cutoff, estrangement, or repair work
  • Life transitions (e.g., divorce, empty nesting)

Whether you’re a family of two or a household of many, we help you work through differences with mutual respect and understanding.

What to Expect in Family Therapy at Four Wings

Family therapy sessions typically involve two or more family members and are guided by a therapist trained in systemic and relational work. We may meet with all members at once or in smaller groups or dyads, depending on the goals your family has.

In sessions, we will help you:

  • Understand family roles, patterns, and unspoken “rules”
  • Practice healthier ways to communicate, listen, and respond to one another
  • Explore emotional needs, boundaries, and expectations
  • Address difficult topics (e.g., mental health, identity, trauma) in a supportive environment
  • Rebuild trust and emotional connection
  • Create shared goals for family well-being

Our approach is not about blaming anyone, it’s about building insight, understanding, and collaboration.

Why Choose Four Wings Psychology for Family Therapy?

  • Therapists trained in systemic and trauma-informed approaches
  • Support for families of all types - including chosen families, blended families, and culturally diverse households
  • In-person family therapy in Nepean and secure virtual sessions across Ontario
