Brainspotting

Access Deep Healing Through Mind-Body Awareness

Do you sense that something unresolved lives beneath the surface - even after trying to “talk it through”? When emotional pain, trauma, or stress feel stuck in your body, traditional talk therapy alone may not reach the parts of the brain and nervous system that need care.

Brainspotting Therapy offers a gentle, focused way to access and release what’s held beneath conscious awareness - helping the mind and body move toward integration and relief.

At Four Wings Psychology, we offer Brainspotting therapy in Ottawa and virtually across Ontario. Our clinicians use this neurobiologically informed approach to help clients process trauma, reduce distress, and reconnect with a sense of calm, strength, and resilience.

What is Brainspotting?

Brainspotting is a trauma-sensitive, evidence-informed therapeutic method developed by Dr. David Grand. The approach is based on the idea that “where you look affects how you feel.” Subtle eye positions - or brainspots - can connect to neural networks that store unprocessed emotional and somatic material.

By identifying and holding these brainspots with the support of a trained therapist, the nervous system can begin to naturally process and release what’s been held beneath conscious awareness.

Because Brainspotting works at both brain and body levels, it can reach layers of experience that words alone sometimes can’t - making it a powerful complement to talk therapy.

What Can Brainspotting Help With?

Brainspotting can be effective for a wide range of emotional, psychological, and body-based concerns - especially when you feel a disconnect between what you know and what you feel.

It can support healing from:

  • Trauma and post-traumatic stress (PTSD)
  • Chronic anxiety, panic, or hypervigilance
  • Shame, guilt, or self-criticism
  • Grief and unresolved loss
  • Somatic pain or body-based distress
  • Performance anxiety or creative blocks
  • Relational and attachment wounds
  • Identity conflict or inner parts work

Whether you’ve done therapy before or are just beginning, Brainspotting offers a pathway to go deeper - safely, gently, and with precision.

What to Expect in Brainspotting Therapy at Four Wings Psychology

Your experience of Brainspotting will always be grounded in safety, consent, and pacing. Sessions are collaborative and tailored to your comfort and needs.

Here’s what the process may look like:

1. Intake & Preparation
We begin by exploring your history, goals, and current supports. You’ll learn grounding and regulation tools to help your body feel safe during the work.

2. Locating the Brainspot
Using gentle observation of eye movement, breath, and body responses, your therapist helps you identify a visual focus point linked to the emotional material - your brainspot.

3. Processing & Integration
As you maintain focus on this point, your brain begins to naturally process what’s held there. The therapist tracks, supports, and helps anchor you in safety as your nervous system reorganizes.

4. Reflection & Ongoing Integration
As activation decreases, we explore insights and somatic shifts that emerge, integrating them into your daily life. Some clients notice significant changes in just a few sessions; others continue the work alongside other therapeutic approaches.

Why Choose Four Wings Psychology for Brainspotting

At Four Wings, we approach Brainspotting with the same care, professionalism, and empathy that guide all of our services. Our clinicians are trained in trauma-informed, evidence-based practices and understand the importance of pacing and safety in deep processing work.

Our approach is:

  • Grounded in neuroscience and trauma-informed care
  • Integrated — often combined with EMDR, EFT, ACT, or mindfulness-based therapy
  • Respectful and collaborative — your autonomy and comfort come first
  • Culturally responsive
  • Accessible — available in person in Nepean or virtually across Ontario

We believe the body and brain hold profound capacity for healing - and that, with the right support, you can access it.

Safety and Considerations

Brainspotting is not hypnosis, nor is it a “quick fix.” It’s a deeply attuned, ethically grounded approach that allows your brain to do the work at its own pace.

You remain in control throughout each session. Emotional shifts, body sensations, or imagery are natural parts of the process and are guided safely by your therapist.

For clients with high levels of distress or dissociation, we may begin with additional stabilization work to ensure that your system feels ready for deeper processing.

Ready to Begin Healing from the Inside Out?

You don’t have to stay stuck in what your body still remembers. Brainspotting offers a pathway to process what’s been held, restore balance, and reconnect with a sense of calm and wholeness.

At Four Wings Psychology, we’ll help you access your body’s natural wisdom for healing - with precision, compassion, and care every step of the way.
