What Does Addiction Look Like?

Addiction can involve substances (like alcohol, cannabis, or prescription drugs) or behaviors (like gambling, gaming, pornography, or food). It often shows up as:

  • Feeling out of control around a substance or behavior
  • Needing more to feel the same effect
  • Using to cope with anxiety, trauma, or numbness
  • Hiding use or feeling ashamed afterward
  • Relationship conflict or isolation
  • Physical or mental health impacts
